PS Lesson 02
Photoshop is just like makeup. When it’s done well it looks great, and when it’s overdone you look crazy.

During the first lesson of SOFT2B, you had to create a Certiport account. Hopefully, you did that and still remember what your account was... right?
Didn't do it? Quickly check the first section of lesson 1 again.
The first domain is often the most challenging for students to master. This domain primarily focuses on theories and best practices from the media design industry. Think about what you do in the field of profession and media. Without any real-world experience as a media designer, this can be difficult. In this part, we will cover a series of terms that you may be asked about in the exam.
We intentionally keep the terms in English since those terms also appear in English in the test.
Design brief
This is the first step in the design process. It involves creating a client profile and a written plan that identifies the goal, target audience, output, content, technical requirements, and constraints of a project.
Client Profile
An overview of the mission, functions, organization, products, services, customers, suppliers, competitors, constraints, and future plans.
Goal, Objective, Purpose
What does the client want to achieve? What is the goal?
Target Audience
A specific group of people for whom your media message is intended.
Demographics
Information about the target audience such as age, gender, income, location, education, and religion, etc.
Outputs
This can be a brochure, a website, a poster, a campaign, etc. All of them are forms of media outputs.
Content
This includes text, photos, images, etc. It encompasses various visual and textual elements used in the media communication.
Technical Requirements
Consider aspects such as size, quantity, color/black and white, etc. These factors determine the physical characteristics and visual presentation of the media communication.
Constraints
Consider factors such as budget, technical requirements, and deadlines. These factors play a crucial role in determining the resources, technology, and time frame needed for the successful execution of the media communication.
Budget
An amount of money that is allocated or available for a specific project.
Deadline
A date by which a portion or the entire project must be completed. Your deadline for Photoshop is in about eight weeks!
Your client wants a new brochure for a backpackers' hostel. Which of the following images appeals to their demographics?
A
B
C
D
Photoshop layers are like transparent sheets stacked on top of each other. You can see through transparent parts of one layer to the underlying layers. You move a layer to position its content. You can also change the opacity of a layer to make its content partially transparent.
You use layers to perform tasks such as composing multiple images, adding text to an image, or incorporating vector shapes. You can also apply a Layer Style to add a special effect, like a shadow or a glow.
So, there are many different elements and buttons to be found in the Layers panel. Try to thoroughly understand them all.
A Blending modes
B Opacity
C Fill Opacity
D Vector layer
E Layer Effects
F Visibility button
G Grouped Layers
H Smart Object
I Hidden Layer

2 Layer Effects
3 Layer Mask
4 Adjusment Layers
5 Group Layers

Learn the fundamentals of how Photoshop blend modes work and the best ways to use them to improve, enhance and creatively manipulate your images. This lesson will cover what blend modes are, explain the basic blend modes, cover the most used blend modes for photographers, and explain some blend modes to creatively enhance your images.
What are blending modes?
Basically, it's a way of combining pixels in Photoshop,! You can do this in numerous ways in Photoshop using layers, brushes, and styles. All these elements use blending modes. Let's focus on layers first.
Target the layer:
Select the layer and scroll through the variety of blending modes. You will see a live preview.
With Shortcut: Select the move tool and the layer. Hold down the Shift key and tap on the + or - on your keyboard.
Disolve mode Effects the layer based on Opacity
Darken Modes Effect the darkness of the image
Lighten Modes Effect the lightness of the image
Contrast Modes Effects the lightness and darkness of the image
Comparative Modes Can invert your image
Composite Modes Effects the colours of your image
Download the image from the Google Drive folder.
Follow the steps in the video and try to understand what you're doing. Know the theory behind it.
Place your image on your Express page and briefly describe what you have done.
